Streamlining Success: A Case Study on Designing a Clutter-Free Interface for Standard Chartered Bank to Enhance User Experience
While working at Infocepts as a Data Visualizer/UI Designer, I had the privilege of working for one of the biggest banks in Asia. I helped design an intuitive and clean interface and a streamlined card blocking process.
Who were the users?
SCB's customers and staff
My role
Conducting competitor analysis, and creating wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and prototypes while working alongside BI analysts and developers.
Tools used
The Goal
Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator, Figma
To create a streamlined process for users to be able to set a spending limit or set instructions to block their card after a certain amount.
The Problem
Due to the cluttered nature of the application, a lot of users were complaining and the client saw most users bouncing off. The response time of the application as well as the card-blocking feature needed to
be improved.
The Solution
I worked alongside developers to redesign the UI using the brand's colors and developed a feature for quick card blocking through the app, for those who wish to curb expenditure.
The Impact
Redesigning the interface resulted in increased user satisfaction, according to the feedback we received. The setting limit feature was well received by the users and led to an increase in lead generation by 24%.
Research
I conducted a competitor analysis to find the right market fit for the product, it helped in defining what we could do differently, and what would succeed or fail.
The common theme across all the competitors was to simply click on "Block" to stop using the card. There was no option to set up a limit and auto-block the card which would give the user more freedom.
Design Process
Requirement gathering ➡️ Competitor Analysis ➡️ Designing Wireframes ➡️ High fidelity mockups
Wireframes
These wireframes were created using Balsamiq to give the client an idea of what element will go where.

Learnings
What I learned from this project:
-
Collaborating with developers from the beginning results in faster turnaround.
-
Designing features for an existing product without making too many changes.
-
Clean UI and deleting unnecessary clutter speeds up user's engagement.
